Durak Ovac©¥k is a user-conscious bus stop designed under the guidance of local craftsmen. It¡¯s Plankton Project¡¯s first project in partnership with the Ovac©¥k Municipality, an establishment known for maintaining an alternative approach to municipal services. Throughout the process, the team practiced designing from a distance and sourcing materials in what the locals call a ¡®deprived region¡¯ while gaining experience from working with people in disciplines outside of academia. Beyond facilitating the construction of a much-needed public amenity for the people of Ovac©¥k, this volunteer effort has also provided an opportunity for students and recent graduates of architecture to gain practical on-site experience. Enabling the design team to engage in a design and build scenario and making it possible to observe the interaction between the actualised product and its end user, as well as working in such a different geographical terrain, all made this project even more valuable.
